The property was leased to the Housing Initiatives of Princeton for a period of one year. 3 new families will be moving in this summer.

PRINCETON, NJ — During the last Council meeting, Princeton adopted an ordinance to lease a property to the Housing Initiatives of Princeton Charitable Trust.

Through a unanimous vote, Council adopted the ordinance leasing 14 Clearview Avenue to the nonprofit.

“This is a one-year lease to allow them to do their program of helping people in the community,” Mayor Mark Freda said.

The Housing Initiatives of Princeton Charitable Trust will use the property as part of the nonprofit’s transitional housing program.

According to the nonprofit, three new families will be moving into transitional housing this summer from substandard living conditions.

At the transitional housing, “they’ll have a safe, secure place to live and a network of support to help with individualized needs, including finishing college degrees, securing higher-paying jobs, building savings and credit, child support and qualifying for permanent affordable housing,” the Housing Initiatives of Princeton (HIP) said.

At the end of the initial one-year term, if HIP wishes to renew the lease, they will have to provide the Municipality with 60 days' notice requesting an extension.

Princeton is implementing its third round, and soon fourth round, of the Affordable Housing Compliance Program. The property at 14 Clearview Avenue will be a part of the program, according to the lease agreement.
