Princeton Middle School’s Boys Basketball Serves At Community Kitchen

PRINCETON, NJ — It was a day of service for Princeton Middle School’s basketball team.
Last week, student-athletes volunteered to serve meals to the community at the Cornerstone Community Kitchen.
After practice on Jan. 18, the team walked from school to the United Methodist Church, where they helped prepare trays of food and serve families in a restaurant-style service, coach Jason Carter told Patch.

“It was around Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and we wondering how to be of service to the community. One of our team moms, Anna Battat, told us about Cornerstone serving meals to the community,” Carter said. “We thought it was the perfect opportunity.”

The basketball team not only served food but also helped in cleaning dishes. They interacted with guests and spent time with other members of Cornerstone Community Kitchen. The students approached their tasks with enthusiasm and came away with an enriching experience, Carter said.

“As a team, we preach qualities of selflessness, dedication and respect. This service to the community demonstrated these qualities and taught the young men what it feels like to serve others,” Carter said.
The Princeton Middlesex School basketball team has been playing at a “very high level” this season. Carter said the students have been disciplined and dedicated in their practice and during their games.
“As a team, our score so far is 13-2. We’ve beaten every team except Fisher Middle School. They are good,” Carter said, praising the team’s opponents.
The team hopes to continue its winning momentum. “We always have such good support from our parents and the community,” Carter said. “I hope they continue to come out to our games and cheer for us.”
