October 4th 2013 this Friday Princeton NJ will join 42 international "MARCH FOR ELEPHANTS" marches to save the African elephant from extinction. We are marching to call for the ban on Ivory, which was lifted in 2008, to be reinstated.
This is the only march in New Jersey & Is Sponsored by Hopewell Valley Community Bank.
Facts: 35,000 Elephants killed last year for ivory. An estimated 30% increase in poaching this year, for a possible total of 45,000 this year. 1 elephant killed every 12 - 15 minutes. The ivory ban that was lifted in 2008 must be put back in place or Extinction in the wild is expected within the decade.Please help us get the word out and join us either by marching, drumming or participating in yoga. March: Marchers will do a 1 mile loop and end back at monument hall where we will have the opportunity to join the yogi's in a silent meditation.
Yoga: The yoga community is inviting yogi's to participate in 2 -15 minute blocks of sun salutations while the marchers will be marching. This is to signify that in 2012 every 15 minutes an elephant lost its life due to poaching. Drum Circle: Participants will form a circle and drum while marchers are marching & Yogis are yogi-ing after march there will be live music and celebration concert with John Beacher.
