Princeton Planning Board To Review Proposal For 18 New Apartments
An 18-unit rental apartment building is being proposed on the corner of Wiggins Street and North Tulane Street.

PRINCETON, NJ — The Princeton Planning Board will continue the discussion on an application to build an 18-unit rental apartment building at 21 Wiggins Street on Dec. 6. The developers are seeking major site plan approval. The property is located on the corner of Wiggins Street and North Tulane Street.
The site currently has a two-story house on the property that was built sometime after 1918, according to a report from Princeton’s Historic Preservation Officer.
This property was home to HiTOPS Health Center for 33 years. Before that Princeton Birthing Center operated from this location. It now houses the Bayard Rustic Center for Social Justice.

The developer is proposing “adaptive reuse” of the existing house. The first floor will continue as office use, while the second floor will be converted to an apartment.
The new building will be attached to south side of the house and contain 18 rental units, with four marked for affordable housing. The rental units will be 1-and 2-bedroom with balconies, except for a 2-bedroom affordable unit and the apartment in the existing house.

The property will have space for 14 parking spots with one designated for handicap parking. Eight electric charging stations will be placed throughout the parking lot. Two new 10-feet brick walls will be built on each side of the driveway.
The new building will include an elevator, a lobby with storage lockers, bike storage, a meeting room, and an electric bicycle and vehicle charging station.
There are seven trees on the property, but only three are expected to be retained.
