Princeton Police Remain On Guard After Texas, Ohio Mass Shootings

PRINCETON, NJ — As mass shootings become a more frequent occurrence, Princeton Police remain on guard.

The most recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas on Saturday and in Dayton, Ohio on Sunday have put many police departments on alert.

"There are no specific or otherwise actionable threats of violence affecting our jurisdiction at the moment. However, we are always cognizant of the need to remain cautiously on guard and alert for unanticipated threats and emergencies," Princeton Police Sgt. Frederick Williams.

Over the weekend, a massacre at an El Paso shopping center left 20 people dead and 26 other injured. A 21-year-old man surrendered shortly after Saturday's rampage, authorities said.

Less than 24 hours later, nine people were killed and 27 wounded after a 24-year-old man opened fire in Dayton's entertainment district. The shooter is also dead, authorities said.

Both attacks come less than a week after a shooting at a California music festival left three dead.

"This is a good time to remind the public to report suspicious activity to police or other authorities on scene (security, management, administrators). Situational awareness can save lives," Williams said.

"Also, for those people who wish to help the victims of these incident, please research any organizations or persons thoroughly who may solicit donations from you on behalf of the victims. Scammers often take advantage of many people by using donation scams during a high profile crises such as these horrific incidents," Williams said.
