PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton Public Schools will be moving to virtual learning for the week after spring break.

The school district will switch to virtual classes from April 12 to 16, to allow students and school staff to quarantine after spring break.

“The number of people who are quarantining make it necessary for PPS to have a remote week from April 12 to 16,” said school superintendent Barry Galasso in letter to parents and guardians.

“The post-spring-break remote-schooling week is a reality for many school districts.”

Galasso said staff and students need to follow CDC guidelines and quarantine for 10 days after spring break, irrespective of vaccination status.

“You can reduce quarantine times by getting tested three to five days after returning to your home in New Jersey. If your student tests positive, they must isolate for 10 days. If your student tests negative, they must quarantine for seven days before returning to school in person,” he said.

Students also need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test to the school nurse.

Additionally, students participating in spring sports must quarantine for 14 days after travel “because they cannot maintain six feet of social distance while at practice or during games,” said Galasso.

Many school districts in New Jersey are going virtual after spring break. In neighboring South Brunswick, schools will be virtual from April 6 to 9.

The East Brunswick school district is asking students and teachers to quarantine for 10 days after spring break travel.
