Princeton Schools Reinstate Mask Mandate As COVID Cases Rise
Beginning Monday, students and staff will be required to return to masking for indoor classes and activities.
PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton Public Schools reinstated mask requirements beginning Monday, after a rise in positive COVID-19 cases in the area.
“Based on the increased number of positive COVID-19 cases, we have received guidance from the Princeton Department of Health to re-instate universal masking for all PPS schools,” the district told parents and guardians in an email communication.
Beginning Monday, students and staff will be required to “return to universal masking” for all indoor classes and activities. Masks will also be required on school buses.

The district said the decision was made based on the high COVID-19 activity rate in the area and concerns about in-school transmission. Masks will also be required to enter any school building.
“The Princeton Health Department notes that when masking guidelines changed in March, the plan included a return to universal masking should the CALI score rise to the high level. Staffing levels due to positive cases are also a concern,” the district said.

District officials have asked students and staff to stay home if they are not feeling well and to contact their provider and get tested.
For the week ending May 7, Mercer County reported “high” COVID-19 activity The statewide transmission rate was 1.25. As of May 9, Princeton reported 108 positive COVID-19 cases for a seven-day period.
