Explaining her art, Zhang wrote: “I take care of myself by expressing my feelings in the form of art. Illustrating how I feel allows me to reflect on my actions, but it also lets my mind wander away from the humdrum of everyday life. I drew an art space with various kinds of art supplies. The ‘G’ is the artist’s hand, the two ‘O’s are the glasses of the smiling girl in the illustration, the ‘g’ is a roll of tape, the ‘I’ is a ruler, and the ‘e’ is a part of the murky water cup.”
The national finalists will receive a $5,000 college scholarship and the national winner will receive a $30,000 college scholarship and a technology package for their school worth $50,000. Their artwork will be featured on Google.com for 24 hours.
