Princeton University Football Team Opens Ivy League Title Defense With Win Over Columbia

The Tigers defeated the Lions, 38-6.

Senior quarterback Quinn Epperly was 16-of-28 for 170 yards and 1 touchdown through the air and picked up a pair of rushing scores to lead the Princeton University football team to a 38-6 win at Columbia to open Ivy League play on Saturday, according to espn.com.

Epperly tossed a 14-yard pass to senior wide receiver Connor Kelley for a score in the third quarter, after Epperly had already scored on a pair of 1-yard runs.

Junior running back DiAndre Atwater carried the ball 11 times for 107 yards and a 51-yard touchdown.

Senior tailback Will Powers carried the ball 7 times for 63 yards and a 19-yard touchdown.

Junior Nolan Bieck kicked a 40-yard field goal to open scoring, but the Lions led, 6-3, early in the second quarter. Once the Tigers got rolling, there was no looking back.

Sophomore safety Dorian Williams collected eight tackles to lead the defense. Rohan Hylton, who was named the Ivy League’s Defensive Player of the Week after last week’s win over Davidson College, had a sack, according to goprincetontigers.com.

Princeton improved to 2-1 overall and is tied at the top of the Ivy League standings after one game with Harvard, a 22-14 winner over Brown last week, as well as Yale (3-0, 1-0) and Dartmouth (2-1, 1-0).

The Tigers are seeking back-to-back conference titles for the first time in 50 years.

Princeton now leads the all-time series with Columbia 68-15-1, beginning with the Tigers’ 6-0 win on Nov. 14, 1874.
