Rash Of Car Burglaries Strikes Princeton: Police

In each case, the car was unlocked, Princeton Police said in an alert.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton Police are warning residents about a rash of car burglaries on Mercer Road, Fleming Way and the surrounding vicinity. On Friday, Princeton Police provided details on specific incidents.

  • A woman reported two pairs of sunglasses and a backpack containing notebooks had been stolen from her unlocked car on Fleming Way. She believes the theft took place some time between 7 p.m. on April 5 and 6:55 p.m. on April 6. The backpack was later recovered, and nothing had been stolen from it. However, the sunglasses were apparently worth $200.
  • A woman reported that between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. on April 6, a pair of sunglasses and a GPS were stolen from her unlocked car on the 300 block of Gallup Road. The total estimated value of the stolen items was unknown.
  • A man reported that several items were stolen from his unlocked cars on the 100 block of Quaker Road during the overnight hours of April 6. The total estimated value of all items stolen was $135.
  • A woman reported that several items were stolen from her unlocked cars on Wilkinson Way during the overnight hours of April 6. The total estimated value of her loss was $190.
  • A man reported that several items worth a total of $1,910 were stolen from his unlocked car on Fleming Way during the overnight hours of April 6.
  • A woman reported that someone had entered her unlocked car on the 500 block of Mercer Street during the overnight hours of April 6, but nothing was stolen.
  • A woman reported two of her unlocked cars were rummaged through on the 500 block of Mercer Street during the overnight hours of April 6, but nothing was stolen.
  • A woman reported that three cell phone chargers worth a total of $90 were stolen from her possibly unlocked car on Benjamin Rush Lane during the overnight hours of April 6.

Residents are reminded to lock their doors, take their keys with them and hide their belongings.

“Not doing so just makes things very easy for thieves who rely on opportunity to commit criminal acts,” police said in an alert.
