Staff At Princeton Middle School Tests COVID Positive

The middle school is currently under construction with very few staff members in the building.

PRINCETON, NJ — A staff member from Princeton Unified Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19. Princeton Public Schools informed staff and parents by email on Wednesday night.

The middle school is currently under construction with very few staff members in the building. The district said no student has been in the building. Meanwhile, a contractor doing work at the middle school also tested positive.

The Princeton Public Health Department believes both cases are unrelated

"It is my understanding that our employee did not contract COVID from the contractor. We will not have any PPS personnel working in that building until Tuesday, and we are doing everything that has been recommended by the health authorities," Interim Superintendent Barry Galasso, said in a statement to Patch .

The district will begin its school year with remote learning on Sept. 14. They hope to pivot to the hybrid model by Oct. 12.

Galasso said he does not anticipate any changes to the schedule at the middle school. Staff have been doing professional development training remotely in preparation for schools opening virtually.

District staff who have access to school buildings are required to wear masks, as well as observe physical distancing and hand-washing protocols.

The Princeton Department of Health is monitoring the situation and has been in touch with everyone who might have been in contact with the staff member.
