Student Threatened To 'Shoot Up' School In Princeton: Police

The student was arrested, and the school has been deemed safe.

PRINCETON, NJ — A student at John Witherspoon School is in custody after threatening to get a gun and “shoot up the school,” Princeton Police said Friday morning.

The student was overheard making the threat on Thursday, according to police. Once school officials became aware of the threat, they immediately contacted the police department.

Through an investigation, police were able to determine that the student didn’t have access to any guns. However, that student has been taken into custody. They have been placed on a monitoring bracelet by juvenile intake authorities while the incident remains under investigation.

The school has been declared as safe, and Princeton Police will provide additional patrols. Chief Nicholas K. Sutter thanked the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance and also credits the prompt and professional response by the John Witherspoon School staff.

The Princeton Police Department and Princeton Schools have been working together to ensure a safe, secure learning environment exists on all campuses.
