Theft by Deception, Forgery: Princeton Police Blotter

A resident told police that an unknown man convinced them to purchase $9,660 in gift cards and then all communication ceased.

PRINCETON, NJ – The Princeton Police blotter dated June 12, had the following reports:

On June 5, 11:01 a.m., a Hodge Road resident reported that a 70-year-old Princeton woman entered the enclosed rear yard of their home, opened the rear door to the residence and remained in the area for a period of time. The woman was located, placed under arrest and transported to PPD Headquarters where she was processed, charged and released.

On June 5 at 4:14 p.m., a person told police that around $435 in cash and property were stolen while they were using the services of a retail establishment on North Harrison Street. There are no suspects at this time, police said.

On June 6 at 7:39 p.m., a Heather Lane resident told police that an unknown man contacted them via telephone and convinced them to purchase $9,660 in Apple and Target gift cards. The card numbers were provided to the unknown man and all communication ceased, resulting in monetary loss.

On June 6, a resident told police that an unknown individual deposited a fraudulent check in the amount of $8,350 from the victim’s bank account. The bank was able to stop payment, resulting in no monetary loss to the victim.

On June 7, 9:17 p.m. a resident of Lawrenceville Road told police that an unknown person entered their home while they were away and stole around $5,300 worth of items. The Detective Bureau is investigating.

On June 9 at 4:40 p.m., victims reported that their vehicles were entered after an object was used to break a window on the vehicles while they were parked in a parking lot on Paul Robeson Place. Around $1,864 in property was stolen out of one vehicle and approximately $180 in property was stolen out of the other. The Detective Bureau is investigating

On June 9 at 6:06 p.m. a victim reported that their backpack containing several items of unknown value was stolen from a front yard on Moore Street. There are no suspects at this time.

On June 9, 2:19 p.m., after receiving to a call for a Shoplifting in progress, police arrested a Trenton resident after he was found to have stolen $358.21 worth of merchandise from a retail establishment on N. Harrison Street. He was also found to have two active warrants for his arrest out of Hamilton Twp. Municipal Court. He was placed under arrest, processed at PPD Headquarters and released.

On June 9 at 11:23 a.m., a caller reported that around $2,980 in athletic equipment was stolen from a location on Moore Street. In addition to the equipment, a lock and chain valued at $13 were removed as well. There are no suspects at this time, police said.

On June 10 at 12:02 a.m., subsequent to a hit-and-run motor vehicle crash investigation, a 53-year-old Princeton man was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. He was transported to PPD Headquarters where he was processed, charged and released.
