Trespasser Struck By Amtrak Train Friday Morning: Authorities

Service is temporarily suspended while authorities investigate.

Service has come to a halt after an Amtrak train struck a trespasser Friday morning, an Amtrak spokesperson said. There were no reported injuries to passengers or crew members. No information was immediately available concerning the person who was hit.

The accident took place at about 10:22 a.m. about 12 miles west of Metropark Station, according to the spokesperson. There were 427 people on the Amtrak Train 141, which was heading to Washington, D.C. from Springfield, Massachusetts, at the time of the incident.

Service on the train has been temporarily suspended as authorities investigate. Passengers will be transferred to an NJ Transit train and taken to Trenton. At Trenton, they will board other Amtrak trains and continue their travels.
