TV Set Catches Fire In Princeton Home: Police

Police saw smoke coming from a home and said it appeared as though there was forced entry at a home on Clay Street on Jan. 2.

PRINCETON, NJ — It appears as though someone broke into a home and started a fire at a Princeton home on Tuesday, police said Friday morning. Police responded to a a 911 call for a smell of smoke from a Clay Street home just after 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 2. Upon arrival, officers saw thick smoke and forced entry.

Police then extinguished fire burning on a TV set using extinguishers from their patrol cars. The scene was turned over to The Princeton Fire Department and the residence was ventilated and later declared safe. No injuries were reported.

The incident was reported as part of the Princeton Police Department’s Blotter released on Friday. In the other incidents:

  • The manager of Hesco Lighting reported that an employee saw a yellow Ryder Rental truck pull into the parking lot and dump furniture into the store’s private dumpster; and
  • A homeowner reported that sometime during the evening of Jan. 3, 2018, his "please be respectful, clean up after your dog" sign was stolen. The value of the sign was $20.
