Princeton, NJ (February 10, 2014) – VolunteerConnect, a nonprofit organization promoting volunteer service, announced today it has received a $25,000 grant from the Princeton Area Community Foundation.
A grant was received from the Greater Mercer Grant Program of The Princeton Area Community Foundation and will support VolunteerConnect’s programming, including skills-based volunteer placement, professional development for nonprofit staff and board training for future nonprofit board members. The Princeton Area Community Foundation promotes philanthropy to advance the well-being of our communities forever.
According to Amy Klein, Executive Director of VolunteerConnect, “Princeton Area Community Foundation’s generous grant is critical to fulfilling all three parts of our mission. It’s a virtuous circle; when we succeed, our partner nonprofits benefit and all of their community services do as well.”

VolunteerConnect places highly skilled professionals, through its growing database, its website and referrals, with short-term impact projects for nonprofits in a specified area. Skills-based volunteers are professionals who enjoy sharing their education and experience while working, during retirement or other life transition or while at home with children. They provide expertise in areas like communication, marketing, research and strategic planning.
Area nonprofits that have benefited from the services of a VolunteerConnect skills-based volunteer include: The Boys and Girls Club of Trenton, Dress for Success of Mercer County, Habitat for Humanity of Trenton, Isles, Kidsbridge, and many more.

In addition to its Skills-Based Volunteer matching services, VolunteerConnect launched a Board training pilot program this winter, which offers nonprofit board service training to qualified applicants. The pilot program ends in March with a final nonprofit fair to facilitate introductions to local nonprofit organizations with board vacancies.
VolunteerConnect enhances its mission by providing resources, networking opportunities and workshops to help non-profit leaders capitalize on the strength of volunteers and improve organizational capacity. VolunteerConnect’s mission is to expand the reach, impact and capacity of community organizations through effective volunteerism, thereby enriching the lives of Central New Jersey residents.
