PRINCETON, NJ — The first full trailer of Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” is here. And it’s all Cillian Murphy and doom.

In the movie, Murphy stars as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the former director of the Institute for Advanced Study, who is often referred to as the “father of the atomic bomb.”

It is based on Oppenheimer’s role in the Manhattan Project that led to the development of the atomic bomb.

“We imagine a future, and our imaginings horrify us,” Murphy’s Oppenheimer says in the trailer. "They won’t fear it until they understand it. And they won’t understand it until they’ve used it.”

“Theory will take you only so far. I don’t know if we can be trusted with such a weapon. But we have no choice.”

The script of the movie is based on the Pulitzer-winning book, "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer," by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin.

In an interview with Total Film, Nolan said he and the production team re-created the first-ever nuclear explosion without using CGI.

The cast includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Josh Hartnett.

The movie will open in theatres On July 21, 2023.
