Who's On The Ballot, Where To Vote In Princeton

Six candidates are running for three seats on the BOE, and two candidates are running unopposed for two council seats.

PRINCETON, NJ — It’s just about time for New Jersey residents to elect a new governor, and there’s a lot at stake locally, as well. In addition to choosing between Deputy Gov. Kim Guadagno (R) and Democratic challenger Phil Murphy to replace outgoing Gov. Chris Christie, Princeton residents will participate in council and board of education elections on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Six candidates will run for three open, three-year seats on the Board of Education. This includes Beth Behrend, Jenny Ludmer, Julie Ramirez, Jessica Deutsch, Michele Tuck-Ponder and James Fields. None of the incumbents are running for re-election.

Leticia Fraga and David Cohen, both Democrats, will run unopposed for two open council seats. They were unopposed in the spring Democratic Primary, and no Republicans filed petitions to run for council this year.
State Senator Christopher “Kip” Bateman, a Republican, is challenged by Democrat Laurie Poppe in his re-election bid.

Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker is running for re-election. He and Roy Freiman are running on the Democratic ticket against Republicans Donna Simon and Mark Caliguire.

Mercer County Sheriff John “Jack” Kemler, a Democrat, will be challenged in his re-election bid by Republican Charles “Chuck” Farina.

Mercer County Freeholders Lucylle Walter and John Cimino, both Democrats, are running for re-election against Republicans Jeff Hewitson and Michelle Noone.

There are also two statewide questions, including one designed to issue $125 million in bonds to provide grants to public libraries,. The other is designed to dedicate state revenue from settlements in environmental contamination lawsuits toward environmental projects. More information on each question can be found below:

About 250 Deputy Attorneys General (DAsG) will be assigned throughout the state on Election Day to help ensure a fair and smooth-running election, and to assist county election officials in resolving voting-related legal issues, according to Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino.

DAsG from the Division of Law will be stationed in each of the state's 21 counties to handle any court applications, and to provide timely legal advice to County Superintendents of Election and Boards of Election on emergent, voting-related matters.
