Rahway promotes first Black woman to police sergeant, officials say (mycentraljersey.com) — Rahway has promoted Detective Sidra Colvin to sergeant, making her the first Black woman believed to hold that rank in the city and placing her in charge of the Police Department’s Juvenile Division. Known for community policing and youth outreach, she’ll now oversee programs that strengthen relationships between officers and young residents. City leaders praised her leadership, integrity, and commitment to Rahway’s families.

2. City of Rahway Introduces $61 Million Municipal Budget (tapinto.net) — Rahway officials have unveiled a $61.7 million 2026 municipal budget that will raise the average homeowner’s municipal tax bill by about $84. City leaders say rising employee costs and inflation drove the increase but note new state aid, reserve funds, and a higher COLA cap helped limit the impact. Residents can comment at an Aug. 3 budget hearing at City Hall.

3. Television, Rugs Among 1,200 Pounds Of Trash Pulled From Union County Waterways (patch.com) — Local students with Project Agos have already pulled more than 1,200 pounds of trash from Union County waterways, including a stream flowing into the Rahway River at Joe Collins Park. Their youth-led cleanups have uncovered everything from a TV to heavy metal pipes, and they’re planning more events to tackle pollution and get more residents involved.

4. Flood Control Project Delayed By Administrative Error In Cranford (patch.com) — Cranford’s plan to desilt and clear debris from the Rahway River has been temporarily delayed after an administrative error forced officials to reject all construction bids. Township leaders say the flood‑control project, crucial for communities along the river, remains a top priority and will be rebid as soon as possible. The work is intended to improve water flow and reduce storm‑related flooding.
