2 Suicidal Men Found On George Washington Bridge: Police

Police found one man staring over the railing for an extended period of time Tuesday morning.

Police took two suicidal men on the George Washington Bridge into custody Thursday morning.

Port Authority Police received a phone call from the Rutherford Police Department at 7:30 a.m. of a suicidal man on the bridge, said Joe Pentangelo, Port Authority Police spokesman.

After searching the bridge, police found a white man in his 50s wearing jeans and a New York Yankees T-shirt at 178th Street and Fort Washington at about 8 a.m., Pentangelo said.

The man was placed into police custody; emergency medical services responded and transported the man to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for psychiatric evaluation, authorities said.

Another man was found on the bridge’s south walkway mid-span at 11:30 a.m., staring over the railing for an extended period of time, Pentangelo said.

Port Authority Police interviewed the man and determined he was suicidal; he was placed into police custody and transported to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation, police said.
