Six elements make up 99% of the human body. They are oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus. The next five are potassium, sulfur, sodium, chlorine and magnesium.
Even though sulfur is far from the top of this list of elements, it is still the third most common mineral found in the human body.

Sulfur is present in all living tissues and in two important amino acids. One is methionine, an essential amino acid that can't be manufactured by the human body. Good sources are egg whites and fish. The other amino acid is cysteine.
Half of the sulfur in the human body can be found in your skin, muscles and bones. Your cartilage, hair and nails also contain sulfur.
Some signs of sulfur deficiencies could be obesity, excessive wrinkles in your skin, sore muscles, joint pain, cardiovascular disease, brain fog and a poor memory,. Sulfur deficiency may also be a strong contributor to Alzheimer's disease, since sulfur helps to rid the body of aluminum.

MSM is an abbreviation for methylsulfonylmethane, which is a naturally occurring sulfur compound in your body that supports joint health. MSM is 34% sulfur by weight. MSM metabolizes dimethyl sulfoxide, which is an anti-inflammatory and analgesic compound that is more commonly known as DMSO. DMSO is used an off label use by some people, since it is only approved for use in veterinary medicine.
A diet high in processed foods, may lead to a sulfur deficiency. This is even more of a reason to eat unprocessed whole foods.
