Bergen Libertarian Candidate Wants To Reverse N.J. Gun Control Laws
Peter Rohrman, of Ramsey, says the state's gun control laws have, 'turned peaceful law abiding citizens into felons.'

RAMSEY, NJ — The Libertarian Party's gubernatorial candidate has promised to overturn New Jersey gun control laws if elected.
Peter Rohrman, of Ramsey, said New Jersey has "some of the most oppressive gun control laws in the United States" that have turned "peaceful, law-abiding citizens into felons."
Rohrman is a former Marine. He promised to eliminate restrictions on "concealed carry, magazine capacity, hollow point ammunition, transportation and firearms identification cards," regulations. He wants to revert gun control laws back to the federal regulations.

Rohrman wants domestic abuse victims to be able to "arm themselves with something other than a restraining order." He referenced the "tragic death" of Carol Bowne to support his position.

Bowne, 39, was stabbed to death by Michael Eitel at her home, NJ.com reported. She filed a restraining order against Eitel and had filed an application for a gun license that authorities had not approved yet when she was killed, the report said.
Rohrman also referenced Brian Aitken and Shaneen Allen as why gun laws need to change.
Aitken had his seven-year prison sentence commuted by Gov. Chris Christie. He was arrested on weapons charges after his mother called police in 2009 when she could not find him, NJ.com reported. Police found three unloaded handguns and ammunition in the trunk of his car, the report said.
Allen had a concealed gun carry permit and a handgun registered in Pennsylvania in her car when a New Jersey State Police trooper pulled her over in 2013, NJ.com reported. Christie later pardoned the single mother of two.
Rohrman's platform also includes reforming property taxes, ending corporate welfare and legalizing marijuana. He unsuccessfully ran for county freeholder last year.
