Body Of Missing Bergen County Man Washes Up On Hudson River Shore, Police Say

Eugene Jaspan's body was found in Edgewater, police said.

A body of missing Bergen County resident Eugene Jaspan was found on the shore in Edgewater Monday morning, authorities confirmed.

Jaspan’s driver’s license was found on the body as were clothes, which police used to positively identify the body as Jaspan’s.

Jaspan’s wife reported him missing Sunday; he was allegedly distraught and told his wife and that may “do harm to himself,” police said.

Jaspan, a Fort Lee resident, was seen on surveillance footage reordered by Fort Lee traffic cameras was reviewed and Jaspan was seen exiting his home at 8:57 a.m. and walking east on North Avenue.

Authorities worked overnight to try and locate Jaspan. Local hospitals and law enforcement agencies were contacted, police said.

Jaspan was seen on video walking on Hudson Terrace near the George Washington Bridge at around 9:19 a.m., police said.

Port Authority police commanders tracked Jaspan to the southbound walkway on the George Washington Bridge’s upper level at around 9:26 a.m.; this was Jaspan’s last known location.

The Edgewater Department of Public Works Superintendent Thomas Quinton found Jaspan’s body at the south end of the Veterans Field shoreline, Edgweater police Chief William Skidmore said in an e-mail.

Jaspan’s body was taken to the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be completed, Fort Lee police said.
