Bergen Christmas Hit-And-Run Victim Identified, Driver Sought: Prosecutor
Steven J. Leitgeb, 59, of Teaneck, died after he was struck by an SUV Christmas night in his hometown, authorities said.

A Bergen County man was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Christmas night in Teaneck, authorities said.
Steven J. Leitgeb, 59, of Teaneck, was struck on Cedar Lane and Garrison Avenue Friday night in Teaneck, Teaneck police Sgt. George Molina said.
The vehicle was described as a “large, black SUV,” said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli.

As a result of an investigation conducted by members of Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit (FAIU) and the Teaneck Police Department, at approximately 6:47 p.m., Leitgeb, while crossing the intersection of Cedar Lane and Garrison Avenue, was struck by a motor vehicle, it was traveling eastbound on Cedar Lane, Molinelli said.

The vehicle continued eastbound on Cedar Lane and fled the scene. The vehicle may have damage to the front passenger bumper, hood and windshield, Molinelli said.
Leitgeb was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries, Molinelli said.
