Crossing Guard On Life Support After Being Hit By Car: Reports

Bergen County crossing guard Jo-Ann Hans was hit and thrown in the air after the driver didn't listen to her commands to stop, reports say.

A 60-year-old crossing guard is reportedly on life support after she was struck by a car while on duty in Bergenfield Tuesday morning.

Jo-Ann Hans was on life support Tuesday night after she was struck by a car outside Congregation Beth Abraham, an Orthodox synagogue, on New Bridge Road, The Record reported.

Hans was thrown into the air after being by a Honda Civic after she motioned to the driver to stop and displayed her hand-held stop sign, the report stated.

Yossi Cohn, a member of the Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps. who was going to cross the street when Hans was hit, administered aid to Hans immediately, according to the report.

Hans was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center late Tuesday afternoon, NJ.com reported.

Pawothil Abraham, 63, the sedan’s driver, was issued motor-vehicle summonses for careless driving, failure to obey a crossing guard and failure to stop for pedestrians crossing.
