Dr. Lou Moore, Democratic Candidate for Ramsey Borough Council Seat

The Ramapo High School principal is seeking his first term on the council

Dr. Lou Moore is a Democratic candidate for a seat on the Ramsey borough council. After an unsuccessful run for office last year, Moore is seeking his first term on the council.

Moore, 47, has worked in education for 22 years. Since 2007, he has been the principal of Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes.

Moore, who grew up in Oakland, has lived in Ramsey with his wife, an English teacher in Ridgewood, since 2007. His three kids, Caroline, Catherine and Anthony, are all enrolled in Ramsey Public Schools. “I am a big supporter of our public schools,” Moore told Patch.

He is also a volunteer with the borough’s basketball program, Habitat for Humanity and is involved in the Guardian Angel Church in Allendale.

Moore said he is running for a seat on the council to add a new voice to the borough’s governing body.

“I am committed to Ramsey, it’s a fantastic town. And, I think we can make it even better,” he said. “I have a lot of respect for the people on the council, but I think the town government has become a bit too closed. I think we need a little creative tension on the council. I think some counter voices will enhance the credibility of the council.”

Moore said several projects he would want to work on as a council member include an unfinished bike path from downtown Ramsey to the Interstate Shopping Center, enhancing the borough’s Rec programs and making local government a more inclusive, open place for residents to share their ideas and concerns.
