RAMSEY, NJ – In support of the great American tradition of giving, Ramsey-based philanthropy, Durga Tree International, is participating in #GivingTuesday, December 2, 2014. #GivingTuesday is a first of its kind effort that will harness the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Holiday and on the heels of the two biggest shopping days of the year, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is designed to inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world. Durga Tree International is encouraging people to donate, whether it is time, money and/or energy, to causes about which they are passionate. Beth Tiger, co-founder and Executive Director is enthusiastic about participating in this unique event. She stated, “Durga Tree is excited to participate in #GivingTuesday as the collective model of working together & sharing talents to effect positive change and is right in keeping with our charity’s mission statement.” Through social media, Durga Tree International will be posting “#unselfies” in support of #GivingTuesday and their mission of abolishing modern human slavery.
Only a year and a half old, this non-profit foundation, co-created by Beth and Tim Tiger and Jess Hoertel, has raised almost $200,000 for smaller, grass roots charities devoted to ending modern day slavery around the world. Durga Tree International’s mission is to “take the homework out of becoming involved in this movement by qualifying hardworking, worthy organizations from around the world, becoming the fundraising vehicle they so desperately need.”
Additional Durga Tree International events are planned for NJ and the West Coast, including a solidarity education summit in Ramsey, NJ on 1/11/15, Alex & Ani fundraiser in Ridgewood, NJ on 2/25/15, and the second-annual Lacing Up For Freedom Walk-a-Thon next Spring in both NJ and Los Angeles.
