THE GYM of Montvale Announces New Fitness Program for Recreational Golfers
Workshops tailored to golfers' unique physical & mental characteristics
THE GYM of Montvale is pleased to announce a new offering for recreational golfers. The new program includes a series of workshops and individualized golf training sessions conducted by Pete Kandel, a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Expert, golf fitness instructor and avid golfer.
The Titleist Performance Institute is the world’s leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing. TPI works with many of the world’s top professional golfers, and Kandel received training from some of the best teachers in the game. The goal of the program is to improve the golfer’s physical performance, by producing a more efficient, repeatable and powerful swing while reducing the chance of injury.
TPI’s experts spent nearly two decades studying the swings of more than 100,000 golfers to determine one thing – the correct Body-Swing connection. The effectiveness of the Body-Swing Connection program can be measured by the fact that the winners of 7 of the last 12 majors and 38 of the last 63 PGA tour events were won by players who were advised by a TPI Certified Professional. In addition, 22 of the top 35 players in the world are graduates of the TPI program.

“Every golfer brings to the game unique physical and mental characteristics that need to be individually addressed.” said Kandel. “There’s more than one way to swing a golf club, and based on what your body can physically do, you can achieve an efficient swing.” Since implementing TPI’s corrective movements into his personal fitness regimen, Kandel has seen significant improvement in his swing and the quality of his golf game.
One of the wonderful things about the game of golf is that the sport can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Regardless of when a golfer takes up the game, though, over time their golf swing evolves as their body changes, requiring them to adapt their swing in order to maintain their skills.

The program features two focused approaches for improvement. The first is TPI’s body screening, which uses video to identify personal body swing characteristics and their cause-and-effect on the golf swing. The assessment data collected is then analyzed and used to design a customized individual plan that uses a variety of specific training exercises and corrective movements to improve the golfer’s swing.
The other element is a series of Body Swing Connection Workshops focusing on the “Big 12” common body swing disconnections and the corrective exercises to improve these physical inabilities. Among the causes of swing disconnections addressed in One on One sessions are posture, spine angle and shoulder plane.
THE GYM is a complete lifestyle and fitness center, designed to promote healthy living in a first class atmosphere. Its unique approach integrates specialized training programs with nutrition and weight management counseling for total body conditioning and optimal fitness. THE GYM is known for its superior quality equipment, expert staff and special amenities, including a juice bar, spa and child play area. The staff’s attentive service and the facility’s array of programs and services provide guests with a state-of-the-art experience.

Here Kandel demonstrates the importance of disassociation between torso/pelvic regions. The player must be able to stabilize their lower body and freely mobilize the thorax (torso). Kandel says without this separation the kinematic sequence is compromised. And all great ball strikers have a remarkably similar kinematic sequence.
