Help for Richard, the Local Homeless Man

Seeking donations to help Richard, the Local Homeless Man

You may have seen Richard, the homeless man in our town who pushes a shopping cart with his belongings by the Interstate Mall. Richard is 61 years old and is homeless because of a series of unfortunate events, including foreclosure of his home. Last winter he suffered through the agony of having to sleep outside in sub-zero weather, and this summer he dealt with scorching temperatures and no place to go for relief. Members of our community have helped him by buying him food and providing him with clothing and other necessities. However, what is most important is to help Richard find a place to live so he can get back on his feet, or at the very least, so he can get through the winter months with warmth and dignity. You may be wondering why he hasn’t looked for a job. The reality is that it is nearly impossible to apply for a job when one has no address or phone number, and no safe place to leave one’s belongings while interviewing. My grandson Evan, who is a senior at Ramsey High School and who works at the mall, has had several conversations with Richard. His story has touched him and he is now determined to help him rise above his situation. He has set up a funding campaign at Gofundme to get Richard the help he needs. No one should have to get through their “golden” years in the situation this man finds himself in. Let’s show Richard that Ramsey residents care.
