The Little Known 'Exercise Hormone'

This exercise hormone is so important, but you probably never even heard of it.

Recent research suggests a fat-burning hormone, released from muscle tissue during exercise, plays a vital role in human physiology. The name of this hormone is irisin. Irisin helps the body to get rid of excess fat and also helps to limit new fat deposits from forming.

As reported by Epoch Times:

“Irisin appears to work by boosting the activity of genes and a protein that are crucial to turning white fat cells into brown cells. It also significantly increases the amount of energy used by those cells, indicating it has a role in burning fat.”

Tests show irisin is able to suppress fat cell formation by 20 - 60%. Normally, your body produces only small quantities of irisin. Exercise is the key to boosting the production of irisin.

Other Benefits of Irisin:
  • Reduces arterial plaque buildup, by preventing the accumulation of inflammatory cells. This lowers the risk of hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis).
  • Increases the metabolic rate and energy expenditure in myocardium, which is the thickest layer of heart muscle.
  • Increases the number of mitochondria.
  • Increases the length of the tails on chromosomes that are called telomeres. Longer telomeres can increase longevity. Shorter telomeres are a risk factor for many diseases and pathologies These include; a decreased immune function, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, atherosclerotic lesions and DNA damage.

If you haven't actively been exercising on a regular basis, you should consult your physician prior to starting any new exercise program.
