‘More Cops Are Going To Die,’ Suspect Tells Bergen Police

A Rockland County man told police that “more cops are going to die,” after he was arrested twice Saturday, authorities said.

Shane Burris was riding with his brother, Whitney, on Route 17 when Upper Saddle River police responded to a report of a dispute on Route 17 South and pulled their Jeep over at 10:30 a.m., said Detective Lt. Edward Kane.

Whitney Burris, 26, tried to escape, but police caught him. He was charged with resisting arrest, obstruction, and possession of a weapon; he also had a felony warrant out for his arrest in New York, Kane said.

Shane Burris, 27, was in possession of 12 bags of heroin, Kane said. He was released. Burris was transported to Bergen County Jail on $50,000 bail pending extradition, police said.

About an hour later, police received a report that a man, who turned out to be Burris, approached two boys — ages 17 and 15 — at Lions Park and threatened to punch them in the face and demanded the younger boy’s cell phone, Kane said. Police found him a short distance away.

“I guarantee more cops are going to die,” Kane said Burris told police.

Burris was charged with making terroristic threats, robbery, child endangerment, and making terroristic threats. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail on $75,000 bail.

Allendale Police, Saddle River Police, Ramsey Police, and Ho-Ho-Kus Police assisted with the incidents, Kane said.
