New Contract Addresses Teacher Benefits, Salary Guide

Deal should be ratified by the end of September

The tentative contract negotiation resolves two major issues, according to a joint statement released by both groups Wednesday.

The tentative deal, according to the statement, has been signed by both the Board and the Ramsey Teachers Association.

“I am happy that the two sides have reached an agreement that resolves two central issues for the District,” RTA President Rich Romains said in the release. “Reducing the cost of health benefits while maintaining reasonable coverage for its employees; and a collaborative approach that significantly improves a technical problem on the teacher’s salary guide.”

Board of Education President Tony Gasparovich echoed his sentiments, saying, “our district is going through an era of change and this contract allows us to take full advantage of the exciting new initiatives our staff members bring forward.”

The new deal will be retroactive, covering the 2010-11 through the upcoming school years.

More specific details about the agreement will be available after a presentation to and vote by the RTA membership during the first week of September.

The Board “will present the plan to the public and then vote on the contract agreement at its September 20 meeting,” the statement said.
