Ramsey Agrees To $325K Settlement With Woman Police Officer
Officer Diane Warnet claimed the borough and police department created a hostile work environment for her because she is a woman.

RAMSEY, NJ — A woman police officer who sued the borough and the police department will receive a $325,000 settlement for a gender discrimination lawsuit she filed against them.
Diane Warnet claimed she was disciplined more harshly than her male co-workers, not promoted, and looked past for assignments because she is a woman, according to NorthJersey.com.
The money is being paid out by the borough's insurance carrier and not out of the borough budget, Mayor Deidre Dillon said.

In a statement, the borough "vehemently denied" Warnet's claims and "denied any wrongdoing."
The mayor and council unanimously approved the settlement "as a result of the costs and risks" associated with the litigation.

"The Borough of Ramsey maintains that it had a meritorious defense to the claims alleged," officials said in the statement. Retired Superior Court Assignment Judge Maurice Gallipoli mediated the settlement agreement.
Warnet claimed that, as the only woman officer on Ramsey's police force, she was allegedly held to a different standard than her colleges. That claim was corroborated by other police officers on the force, NorthJersey.com reported, citing the lawsuit.
