Ramsey Rescue Scores Second Place Finish at Extrication Competition
The borough's squad competed against nine area teams in a contest that members say was both exciting, and a good way to practice their skills
The Ramsey Rescue Squad showed off its skills this weekend at a regional competition that had members carry out an extrication in a simulated emergency situation. The team came in second place.
Saturday, at the first ever Rutherford Rescue Company 5 Extrication Competition, Ramsey’s crew competed against rescue squads and fire departments from Allendale, Blauvelt, Paramus, North Arlington, Iselin, Ho-Ho-Kus, Garfield, East Rutherford and Carlstadt.
Crews were given a car and had to perform a full extrication – removing all four doors, the roof, and push the dashboard back at least four inches. Each team was judged on safety, tool technique, personnel usage, knowledge of tools, and time.

“It’s basically an excuse for us to train,” he told Patch Wednesday. “It’s a way to improve our skills. Plus, there are a bunch of different techniques you can use to cut someone who is trapped in a car out of it. So, we got to watch how all of these other towns do it, and share ideas.”
Six members of the Ramsey Squad competed, Capt. Chris Rago (Team Leader), Lt. Chris Warnet, Lt. Erik Moritz, Mike Carroll, James Duffy, and Keith Rolandelli.
