Ramsey Residents Honored for Service

Duo has spent decades volunteering as members of the borough Board of Health

During Public Health Week, Jim Rogers and C.B. Young were recognized and honored by the Bergen County Health Officers Society and the Bergen County Department of Health Services for their service on the Ramsey Board of Health. Jim Rogers has served for 47 years and C.B. Young for 26 years.  Jim’s 47 years of service was the longest of any Board of Health member in Bergen County.

Jim Rogers has been a Ramsey Resident since 1952. He is a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Jim was an organic chemist by trade with a B.S from St. John’s and a M.S from Stevens Tech. He was appointed to the Ramsey Board of Health in 1967 and has been the president since 1987. The spirit he brings to the meeting on the second Thursday of each month is cherished by all.

C.B.Young moved to Ramsey in 1967. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in electronic engineering. He later obtained a Master’s in engineering as well as a Masters in computer science.  He joined the Ramsey Ambulance Corps in 1973 and is still a certified EMT, keeping up with all the mandatory training. He was appointed to the Ramsey Board of Health in 1987, and is currently the Vice President. He keeps all the members abreast of the latest Public Health news, and is the “go to” person on balancing the health department budget.

Many residents in town are aware and take advantage of the Ramsey Board of Health’s several yearly sponsored flu clinics and free rabies shots for our canine and feline friends every January.  Healthy Bones classes and walking groups are also offered by the Ramsey Board of Health.

Joe Verdone, Ramsey Council Liaison to the Board of Health, commented that “under Jim and C.B.’s leadership valuable programs such as these have positive effects on the health needs of the town’s residents, young and old.  Their foresight and genuine interest in the public’s health needs and the awareness they provide are greatly appreciated.”
