Students Who Walked Out Of Classes Friday Assessed Cuts: Report

Breaking: Students In Passaic County and Ramsey were given cuts for participating in a nationwide walkout calling for stronger gun laws.

Students at two North Jersey high schools were told they would be assessed with cuts if they participated in local walkouts calling for stricter gun-control laws, according to a report on NorthJersey.com.

The walkouts are part of the April 20 National School Walkout, which is similar to the ones held March 14 after the February school shooting in Parkland, Florida that killed 17 people, including Alyssa Alhadeff, a former Woodcliff Lake resident.

Administrators at Ramsey and Passaic Valley Regional high schools told students they would get a cut for class if they walked out, according to the report.

Ramsey Superintendent Matthew Murphy and high school Principal Michael Thumm and Passaic Valley Superintendent Jo Ann Cardillo and Principal Raymond Rotella did not respond to emails requesting comment.

Ramsey students yelled "books not bullets" and "no more thoughts and prayers" as they walked from the high school to town hall during their walkout, according to a video posted on Twitter.

About 20 students participated in the walkout at Passaic Valley Regional High School. They stood outside the school and held signs, according to the NorthJersey.com report.

More than 2,700 walkouts and protests were scheduled to occur across the United States Friday.
