Randolph Invites Residents To Register Their E-Bikes Ahead Of New Rules

Residents can now make an appointment.

RANDOLPH, NJ — Randolph Motor Vehicle Commission Licensing Center will begin taking appointments for new title/registration and e-bike initial registrations, according to Senator Anthony Bucco (R-Morris, Passaic).

The center is located at 160 Canfield Ave. Residents can make an appointment at this website.

“I am happy to announce that the Randolph MVC will now offer expanded services including new title and registration transactions and initial e-bike registrations, providing residents with greater convenience and access to the services they need,”Bucco said. “I’ve pushed for this expansion because I know how important it is for residents to have these services available closer to home and make it easier to get things done. I appreciate the MVC’s partnership in helping bring these improvements to our community.”

Randolph is reminding residents that new e-bike regulations will take effect next month.

Under the new rules taking effect on July 19, e-bike operators must be at least 15 years old and possess either a valid driver's license or an e-bike/motorized bicycle license or permit issued through the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC).

E-bikes must also be registered with the NJMVC.

Police noted that motorized bicycles are required to carry insurance coverage, while low-speed electric bicycles do not require insurance but must still be registered.

Helmets are mandatory for all e-bike riders regardless of age.

The department is also urging riders to follow traffic laws and practice safe riding habits, including traveling with the flow of traffic, stopping at stop signs and traffic signals, watching for pedestrians and vehicles, and avoiding reckless operation.

Officials encourage residents to review the new regulations to ensure compliance before the July 19 implementation date.
