16-Year-Old ID’d As Victim Of Fatal Train Collision In Red Bank, Police Say

RED BANK, NJ — A 16-year-old student from Red Bank Regional High School has been identified as the victim of a fatal train collision on Wednesday morning, Red Bank Police Chief Michael Frazee told Patch.

At 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, a North Jersey Coast Line train struck and fatally injured the student at the Red Bank station, NJ Transit officials said. The name of the teen has not been released.

Red Bank Regional High School was notified of the incident and has a counselor available for students and staff, according to Frazee.

In an online post, Red Bank Deputy Mayor Kate L. Triggiano mourned the student, noting the “countless people” who gathered to remember him at a memorial service held on Wednesday evening.

“Our community is deeply mourning the tragic loss of a Red Bank child who was horrifically struck and killed by a train this morning,” Triggiano said.

“The amount of lives this child touched with his kindness and personality is overwhelming,” she continued. “He is loved by his family, his peers, his teammates, his coaches, his neighbors, his classmates, his teachers, everyone.”

NJ Transit police are leading an investigation into the incident.
