We spoke with Susan Pacana, M.D., and Jocelyn Carlo, M.D., OB-GYNs and gynecologic surgeons at Hackensack Meridian Medical Group. They explain that Sonata is an outpatient procedure done under anesthesia that uses radiofrequency energy to heat and destroy fibroids, causing them to shrink over a few months. “Everything is done vaginally, so there are no incisions,” says Dr. Pacana.
