Car Stolen From Parking Lot In Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, NJ — What has now become a full-fledged epidemic of car thefts in Monmouth County persists: Shrewsbury Police confirmed to Patch that a car was stolen from where it was parked on Saturday afternoon.

The vehicle, a Land Rover, had been parked in the Nails Plus lot on Broad Street. According to police, it was not running and its owner was not inside. It's unclear whether the car was locked or where the keys were.

However, the owner returned at 3:30 p.m. Saturday to where they parked it and found the Land Rover gone. They called 911 but the car was not located, said police. There was also no description of the suspects.

It is unknown if the car has been located as of Tuesday morning.

This comes the same week a Tinton Falls homeowner reported two young men tried to steal his wife's BMW SUV from their driveway last Tuesday, April 26 — while he, his wife and their sleeping 3-year-old daughter were inside. He said the two would-be thieves seemed surprised to find people inside the luxury SUV and drove away; the car they were driving had been reported stolen. And car thefts have become such a problem in New Jersey that Gov. Murphy and the Attorney General changed their own policy last week, now allowing police officers to pursue stolen cars.

There were five reported car thefts or car theft attempts in Manalapan last week, according to that town's latest police blotter.
