Summer Art Classes, Workshops and Demos

Free Watercolor Demonstration by Artist/ Illustrator Ken Stetz

Saturday June 23 11am-1pm

  Colorest Instructor Ken Stetz will be giving a free demonstration at the new Colorest Art Studio.  Specific techniques will be shown and demonstrated.  On hand will be some of Ken Stetzs artwork along with a few student pieces!

Ken Stetz teaches many classes here such as watercolor, drawing and mixed media, and college portfolio prep. This is a great time to discuss and question things you may have wanted to know about taking a class with him.
This is open to the public and no need to register.  Bring a friend along! Complimentary coffee and light refreshments will be served.

Painting Ocean Scenes in Watercolor Instructor Artist / Illustrator Ken Stetz

Choose from:  Monday June 25  10am- 1pm  Thursday June 28 10am- 1pm

Tuesday June 26  6:30pm- 9;30pm  & Thursday June 28  6:30pm- 9:30pm

Explore key aspects of painting seascapes, beach and boat scenes.  These workshops will cover color mixes and application techniques designed to accurately portray these types of subjects. (Recommended is taking 2 workshops, but if you can only do one Ken will certainly teach you a lot.)
Cost:  Take one workshop for $45 or 2 for $80 mix and match your day and times.  There will be a one time $10 fee payable to Ken for photographic reference materials which will be yours to keep.  Space is limited. Some supplies needed

 Life Drawing with Instructor Scott Nickerson
Fridays June 1- June 29 10am- Noon
 Working from live nude model on short poses and long poses all drawing materials welcome.  Main focus will be on capturing the gesture, structure, and rendering the form using lights and darks. Individual instruction will be given as well as side demonstrations.  5 week course  (plus small model fee to be split by class)

Comic Book Techniques with Artist Sean Pryor Wednesdays 4- 6pm  June 6- August 1
Kids, Teen & Adults   Have you ever been interested in comics, cartooning or drawing characters? Let Instructor Sean help you develop the skills and know-how to finish a well composed piece of art! We are looking to build a "community" for people to get together and have a positive, motivating atmosphere to come together.  Pastel Painting with Artist Salomon Kadoche
May 17- June 14   10am-1pm

This is a class for people interested in knowing anything about pastels. Whether you are an experienced pastel artist or somebody completely new to pastels, you'll find this very talented instructor Salomon Kadoche interesting with lots of useful information and advice on how to create beautiful pastel paintings. Mr. Kadoche was born in Casablanca, Morocco and has dedicated his life to perfecting his craft and producing quality work. Now settled in Monroe he explores undiscovered places in the Garden State and continues to produce breathtaking renditions of realism. 5 week course $270

This class will offer 2 choices for it's students.

Choice 1- Classic oil painting with Scott Nickerson.  Learn classic oil painting techniques used by the great masters. Still Life, Landscape, Trompe l'oeil and portrait can all be explored in this class. Beginner to advance is welcome.

 Techniques using Pencils, Pens and Brushes with Ken Stetz

This class will cover the fundamentals of good drawing as well as studying specific techniques when using pencils, charcoal, pens and water based mediums. Explore landscapes, structures in landscapes, bodies of water, and figures as we find subjects from the area around us. This class will have some sessions on location. 6 week course $160  

 Creating a dynamic college portfolio-With Fine Artist / Illustrator Ken Stetz

Learn advanced university level drawing and media techniques as you create original art that will showcase your artistic strengths and individuality. Ken Stetz is a widely published illustrator and a gallery represented fine artist with extensive experience dealing with many major art universities. The success of his past students speaks for itself. Carnegie Mellon, UArts, FIT, SVA, Syracuse, Kutztown,SCAD, and Tyler School of Art at Temple University are all programs that have accepted students from his portfolio classes.6 week course $170

 MASTERS TECHNIQUES - Pencils to Paintbrushes Thursdays July 12- August 23  7- 9pm   No class July 26
Recreate master drawings and paintings from some of America’s greatest artists such as Homer, Sargent, Wyeth, Cassatt as we study their techniques in graphite and charcoal, colored pencils and pastel, watercolor and ink tense pencils, and painting in water based mediums. Choose from master still life’s, landscapes, and portraits and children's portraits. Reproductions will be provided 6 weeks Cost $160

 Painting in Watercolor with Artist Ken Stetz
Choose from Mondays 10am0 Noon or Tuesdays 7-9pm July 9- August 21

Study the techniques used to create strong vibrant watercolor paintings. The class will cover composition, drawing on watercolor paper, light and shadow, color mixing, color application, controlling edges and managing your palette. Explore subject matter such as landscapes, seascapes, and people. Beginners to advanced painters are welcome. Instructor Ken Stetz works with students on an individual basis. Work from your own material or from pre-worked studies provided by Ken.6 week course $160 

 Gamblin Torrit Grey Competition with Instructor Scott Nickerson
Mondays June 18-August 20  7-9pm  No class July 4

Gamblin Oil Paint has a yearly contest with a complimentary paint made once a year called torrit grey.(rules below)  Instructor Scott Nickerson will guide students in developing the piece for the competition and all while you are learning to paint.  Beginner to advanced encouraged to take class.  Competition deadline is October 1,2012.  Anyone wanting to continue with their painting in September the opportunity will be available. So why not go for it! 9 week course $245

 Weekends with Mario Robinson - pastel, graphite and watercolor
Saturday July 14- August 11   11am - 2pm

This class will focus on painting the figure (portrait). Participants will be offered the option to work in watercolor, pastel or graphite. Students can expect individual critiques and an intense focus on materials. The goal is to approach the portrait with a high level of creative skill as well as a deep appreciation for the human experience. The class is designed for all levels.  Beginners will receive a comprehensive introduction, while advanced students will be given instruction on a higher level of technical proficiency. there will be demonstrations by the instructor throughout the duration of the classes. Reference will be from photos (no models)  5 week course $185

Mixed Media Art Experience: with Artist Carla Valentino
Tuesdays July 17- August 21 4-6pm

This class provides students with the opportunity to experiment with a variety of drawing, painting, printmaking and collage media. Acrylic paint, watercolor, ink, pastel, pencil,colored pencil and mono printing are among the materials to be explored. No experience necessary!  6 week course $165 plus materials
