Former Red Bank Teacher Faces Additional Sexual Assault Charges

RED BANK, NJ - An ex-Red Bank Charter School educator from Tinton Falls has now been charged with sexually assaulting several elementary school children, prosecutors said.

Authorities did not provide a specific number of victims, ages or which school the victims attended.

Gustavo Barrientos, 53, a former elementary school teacher in the Long Branch School District and the Red Bank Charter School was arrested and charged on Feb. 14 with sexually assaulting a 10-year-old student, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Police said the Tinton Falls man showed a 10-year-old female student pornography and sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. This incident happened during his time as an elementary school teacher in the Long Branch School District, said police.

A joint investigation between the MCPO and the Long Branch Police Department resulted in Barrientos being charged with sexually assaulting several other elementary school children, according to a statement from the prosecutor’s office.

Barrientos is being lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold pending a detention hearing.

According to NJ.com, Barrientos was introduced as a third grade teacher for the 2020-21 school year at Red Bank Charter School last year. The publication also reported that Barrientos was listed as a fourth grade teacher at George L. Catrambone Elementary School in Long Branch during the 2016-2017 school year, but was suspended with pay in September 2018 according to school board meeting minutes.

Investigators are still seeking additional information about Barrientos' activities. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det.
