Houghtaling & Downey Still Committed to Override of Equal Pay Bill Veto
Assembly Members Houghtaling and Downey vow to continue fighting for Equal Pay despite Senate Republicans' opposition.

TRENTON -- The New Jersey State Senate on Monday failed to garner the votes necessary for an override of Governor Christie's veto of an equal pay bill that passed originally with wide bipartisan support. The bill, which would strengthen protections for women in the workplace who are unfairly paid less than men for comparable work, is sponsored in the General Assembly by Assemblywoman Joann Downey and Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling.
"This bill is meant to empower women and to empower our state's workforce, which in turn benefits all of us," said Downey (D-Monmouth), "Particularly after seeing and meeting so many inspiring women at the Women's March this weekend, I am more sure than ever that that the time to get this override done is now."
"It is disappointing that the override was not successful today, considering what a common sense bill this is," said Houghtaling (D-Monmouth), "But we've never wavered in our support of finally closing the gender wage gap, and we still hope to override this veto."
