Nine artists including Katie Truk, Lisa Bagwell and Donna Payton will be exhibiting their work in the new exhibit, “Just a Big Mix-up!” which will open Friday, September 7th at the Oyster Point Hotel in Red Bank, NJ.
“This is my first year as the Hotel’s Curator and my goal was to show work in as many mediums as possible, by as many artists as I could. My first exhibit was of artists who work in wood, then came the photographers, and then the abstract painters, and now mixed media. Mixed media is interesting because artists can use any materials they want to manifest their vision," says Ellen Martin.
Katie Truk cuts and sews pantyhose in interesting and colorful patterns, which she then stretches over wire. She calls her multi-layered work “stretched sculptures,” and is just coming off a major exhibit at the Hunterdon Art Museum. Lisa Bagwell uses a multitude of items that would otherwise go into the garbage – almost nothing is off limits. “Always cognizant of waste growing up, I came to start saving my trash in 2002 while working at a camp that relied heavily on disposable products,” says Lisa. Donna Payton’s work can include acrylic paint, suede mat board, colored rhinestone and watercolor paper.
