Man Threatened To Burn Mayor's Home Over Property Taxes: Police

The Monmouth County man was arrested Sunday evening in connection with the threat made on Facebook, police said.

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ — An Ocean Township man has been arrested after police say he threatened to burn down the mayor's house because the man was mad about an increase tin the township's property taxes, Ocean Township police said Monday.

Arthur Morse, 75, of Alpern Avenue, was arrested Sunday evening, Ocean Township Detective Lt. Timothy R. Torchia said in a news release.

Torchia said police had received a tip saying more had threatened to "burn the mayor's house down" in a post on Facebook, and a copy of the post was forwarded to police Sunday morning.

The threat stemmed from Morse's frustration over a recent increase in the property taxes, Police Officers Mark Powoski and Randy Slawsky learned as a result of their investigation, he said.

The investigation led to an Alpern Avenue home and the officers made contact with Morse and proceeded to arrest him, Torchia said.
