PIANIST RON LEVY FEATURED ON MONMOUTH SYMPHONY’S FINAL CONCERT OF THE SEASON

Internationally acclaimed pianist Ron Levy will appear with the
Monmouth Symphony Orchestra at the Count Basie Theatre on Sunday, June 1 at 3:00 p.m., in the orchestra’s final concert of the 2013-2014 season.   Performing one of the most popular works in
the piano repertoire, Edvard Grieg’s
Piano Concerto, Levy will impress the audience with his masterful,
sensitive playing, called “first class” by the New York Times.  Mr. Levy has a busy career, both as a soloist
and as a member of the Palisades Virtuosi, a flute/clarinet/piano trio which is known for performing new works, many of which they have commissioned over the
past ten years.

To complement the Grieg, the MSO’s Music Director Roy Gussman has selected two other works by Nordic composers, including Halvorsen’s lively Entry March of the Boyars, and Sibelius’ beautiful tone poem, The Swan of Tuonela Rounding out the program will be American composer Aaron Copland’s Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo.  Often referred to as “The Dean of American Composers”, Copland almost singlehandedly forged an “American” sound, depicting the wide open spaces of the American West. The Rodeo Dances, composed in 1942, are a prime example of Copland’s American voice.

Prior to the performance, the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra’s bass trombonist and program annotator, Tom Avakian, will interview soloist Ron Levy in the theatre at 2:15 p.m.

Ticket prices are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors and only $5 for students. For tickets, call the Monmouth Symphony ticket line at 732-806-7680 or the Count Basie Box Office at 732-842-9000.
