RBC Senior Earns Congressional Medal

On November 22nd, US Senator Cory Booker presented RBC senior Daniela Rodriguez-Luna the Silver Congressional Award Medal at the New Jersey

On November 22nd, US Senator Cory Booker presented RBC senior Daniela Rodriguez-Luna of Tinton Falls the Silver Congressional Award Medal at the New Jersey Congressional Award Ceremony. The Congressional Award, established in 1979, is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans to recognize initiative, achievement and service.

Participants can earn Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas; Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration.

To earn the award, Daniela performed 200 hours of community service primarily as a volunteer for the Monmouth County Park System. She also volunteered with the RBC LIFE Club, the RBC Make a Wish Club, and the ASPCA. Daniela spent 100 hours in personal development learning the play the acoustic guitar, 100 hours in physical fitness playing tennis, and went on a two night, three day camping and whitewater rafting trip to complete the expedition requirement.

Daniela feels a great sense of accomplishment, and says that the award “encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and taught me to work towards my goals,” adding, “I like that this award is earned by helping others in my community and by developing personal interests. My goal is to earn the Gold medal by next year.”
