Red Bank Man Sentenced For Killing Volunteer Firefighter

RED BANK, NJ — A 24-year-old Red Bank man who admitted stabbing a volunteer firefighter to death in a street fight over a woman in that town was sentenced Friday to thirteen years in prison.

Both men are from Red Bank and the murder occurred on Sunday, May 27, 2018.

The volunteer firefighter who was killed was Andrew Hill, 26, pictured above.

Demar S. Reevey, 24, pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter in his death.

Reevey took the guilty plea in May of this year after Monmouth County prosecutors worked in consultation with the victim's family. Reevey must serve 85 percent of the sentence before being eligible for parole.

At 12:43 a.m. on May 27, 2018, Red Bank police received a 911 call reporting a stabbing victim in the area of Tilton Avenue and Bank Street. Police found the victim, Hill, at the scene. He was taken to Riverview Medical Center but pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m. Reevey was apprehended a short time later. The men had argued over a woman, it was later revealed.

Hill is remembered in the Red Bank area as an affable volunteer first responder and firefighter.

"Andrew was known for his positive attitude and infectious smile, which will never be forgotten," read this GoFundMe page set up for his funeral expenses. "Andrew will be dearly missed by all that knew him."

Hill worked at Bayshore Community Hospital. He was an active member of the Sea Bright Volunteer Fire Department, the Red Bank First Aid Squad and the Red Bank Volunteer Fire Department where he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of the Westside Hose Company.

He was also an enthusiastic drummer who enjoyed spending his time with Fusion Drum & Bugle Corps and making his own beats. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank.

"Andrew always put God and family first no matter the circumstances," his family wrote.
