Red Bank Police Increase Patrols At Train Station In Wake Of Elizabeth Bombing

NJ Transit stations are on alert after five explosive devices were found early Monday in Elizabeth train station.

RED BANK, NJ — Additional Red Bank police officers are on patrol Monday morning in the borough in the wake of bombs left at a train station in Elizabeth early Monday morning, police said.

Police Chief Darren McConnell confirmed the department has more officers patrolling at the NJ Transit station in Red Bank.

There are no reported threats to the borough, but police are urging residents and travelers to be aware and report anything suspicious that they see.

Five possible explosive devices were found in a backpack outside the Elizabeth train station early Monday, and one exploded while a bomb squad robot was attempting to disarm it, authorities said.

An Elizabeth man is being sought in connection to the attack in the Chelsea section of Brooklyn on Saturday night as well as the Seaside Park bombing at a Marine Corps charity 5K race, the FBI said. But Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, of Elizabeth, has not yet been tied to the bombing at the Elizabeth train station.

"The public is reminded to remain vigilant and to be aware of your surroundings," the department said in a post on Facebook. "Any suspicious activity should be reported to the police immediately."
