Riverview Medical Center Commemorates Blue and Green Day

Red Bank, NJ. Hackensack Meridian Health Riverview Medical Center today raised the NJ Sharing Network Flag over the hospital in honor of Blue and Green Day and Donate Life Month. During Blue and Green Day, the public is encouraged to wear blue and green, hold events and fundraisers, and partner with local restaurants, malls, media, and community organizations in an effort to promote organ, eye and tissue donation and the extreme need for registered donors.

National Blue and Green Day is part of Donate Life Month, celebrated in April each year, featuring an entire month of local, regional and national activities to help encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to celebrate those who have saved lives through the gift of donation.

“This is such a special campaign,” said Kelli O’Brien, Chief Health Executive at Riverview Medical Center. “The importance of organ and tissue donation cannot be overstated. We were proud to be recognized for our efforts in 2018 by receiving the Platinum status from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of a nationwide campaign. We plan on continuing to actively promote enrollment in state organ donor registries and raise awareness about the need for organ donors.”

NJ Sharing Network is the non-profit organization responsible for the recovery and placement of donated organs and tissue for those in need of a life-saving transplant. Nearly 4,000 New Jersey residents are currently awaiting transplantation. The Network is also part of the national recovery system, which is in place for the 115,000 people on the national waiting list.
